Mercury Redstone & Mercury Atlas Rockets 1:100 Scale Models

MERCURY-REDSTONE was a single-stage, liquid-fueled launch vehicle used for suborbital missions in Project Mercury. It utilized a single A-7 engine running on liquid oxygen [LOx] and ethanol, producing 350 kN [78,000 pounds] of thrust. The rocket was based on the Redstone ballistic missile and could propel the Mercury capsule to altitudes of up to 210 km [130 miles], achieving brief suborbital trajectories but not orbital velocity. It flew America’s first astronaut, Alan Shepard.

MERCURY-ATLAS [LV-3B] was a two-stage, liquid-fueled launch vehicle capable of achieving orbital insertion. Its stage-and-a-half configuration featured two Rocketdyne XLR-89-5 booster engines and one XLR-105-5 sustainer engine burning LOx and RP-1, generating 1,880 kN [422,785 pounds] of thrust in total. The Atlas rocket was used to achieve low Earth orbit missions with the Mercury capsule, including Amercia’s first orbital mission with astronaut John Glenn.
